When you ask someone what is causing our climate crisis, the response will almost certainly be scientific. You’ll hear something about fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, and our ice caps melting, what you don’t often hear is our spirituality.
Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee Ph.D. is a Sufi teacher and author whose teachings focus on our spiritual relationship with our world.
He says to solve this crisis, we need to go beyond the political or economic, beyond changing laws and technology, and actually address our very way of life. In a piece published on The Huffington Post, he said:
“[D]isregard for the sacred within all of life has had a devastating effect. We have dismissed our ancient role as guardians of the planet. As a result, the sacred fire that we were supposed to keep burning, the light of the sacred that nourishes all of creation, is slowly going out.”We need to bring the sacred back into the world, and return some reverence to our lives.
Without this we cannot make steps bold enough to secure our future.
OurVoices began in part out of this recognition—that the traditional political answers to climate change were not enough. That unless we can reach people on a level beyond our day to day concerns and truly connect them to this issue, change will be all but impossible.
So we are deeply honoured that Llewellyn will be joining OurVoices as a Spiritual Ambassador, sharing his teachings, and helping bring about real change.
