We are incredibly excited to annouce Rabbi Steve Gutow joining OurVoices as a Spiritual Ambassador. A lawyer, rabbi, and political organiser, Rabbi Gutow (pictured in center) currently serves as President and CEO of Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA).
Rabbi Gutow has led the JCPA into a leadership position on environmental action nationally and within the Jewish community.
He is a past co-chair of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL), the JCPA’s environmental initiative, which has become the advocacy flagship for Jewish environmental efforts, and serves as the board chair to the National Religious Partnership for the Environment. A member of the MomentUs Faith Executive Committee also, Rabbi Gutowhelped create and launch its Blessed Tomorrow Program, a coalition of diverse American faith leaders committed to "walking more gently on the earth and inspiring others to lead on climate solutions".
This summer, Rabbi Gutow, along with Rabbi Lawrence Troster, published a moving piece for the Jewish community after the release of Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si'. “We believe that Jews, as people of faith, should use this holy moment in the history of the planet to speak out forcefully. Our future is at stake just as is everyone else's future,” they said.
Rabbi Gutow's passionate beliefs on Jewish environmentalism embodies the multi-faith climate action OurVoices continues to organise in this crucial year.
Looking on to the upcoming Jewish High Holiday Season, Rabbi Gutow is working to engage rabbis in a campaign to preach about climate change. "Members of our community should make it clear that they welcome Pope Francis to the United States and support this efforts described in the encyclical," he says.
We are excited to have Rabbi Gutow join OurVoices as a Spiritual Ambassador and we can't wait to see what we achieve together.
